Selim Süme & Özgür Öğütcen: Tekerrür
In Tekerrür I analyze how the image becomes an object of desire, how history, memory and recollections are re-written in time, the role of the photograph in this re-writing, our relationships with images and how they manifest in our memory and our recollections.
Tekerrür consists of 80 found passport photographs that I produced and an accompanying text. It is a dissertatio on the problem of representation that arises when the photographic image is separated from its function. I inspect the gaze in a portrait photograph , it effect on others and how we position ourselves through the gaze. Thus, the portraits that have been severed from their persons are conceptualised outside of the time and place they are of, becoming representations of the pure gaze.
