PhotoQ’s Book Club Unseen Session #2: Phenomena
Saturday September 23
9 – 11 am
During the Unseen festival the PhotoQ Bookshop offers two special sessions of PhotoQ’s Book Club, the workshop that focuses on one great photo book and its authors. During the first hour the participants can freely discuss all aspects of the book, while the authors are absent. After a short break the photographers join the club and an in-depth and intimate exchange of ideas will open up.
On this Saturday morning the participants will visit the café-restaurant Piet de Gruyter, a few hundred meters from the festival site. Subject is the book Phenomena. Three Danish photographers – Sara Brincher Galbiati, Peter Helles Eriksen, and Tobias Selnaes Markussen – created this work together, so quite different from the usual approach where one photographer is the creator.
The book and an accompanying exhibition were launched in Arles last year and have received a lot of compliments worldwide since. The work by Phenomena’s collective is exhibited during Unseen at the stand of East Wing Gallery.
Phenomena is about the belief in UFO’s and extraterrestrial life in the USA. Using interviews, photographs, and other material, the book examines mankind’s need for faith, striving to understand the modern myth of extraterrestrial visitors, and especially the role our eternal search for substance in the face of meaninglessness plays in this.
The workshop is moderated by bookshop owner Edie Peters and photographer Morad Bouchakour. We’ll begin at 9 o’clock sharp, and the Phenomena artists will join the talk from 10. For the sake of intimacy the maximum number of participants is 12.
Coffee, tea, juices, water, cookies and croissants will be available.
Afterwards the participants will be able to buy the book.
