Israel Ariño: La gravetat del lloc (2nd ed, signed)
‘The day is beautiful, the night is sublime.’ (Immanuel Kant)
La gravetat del lloc is a project Ariño carried out while staying as artist in residence in Domaine de Kerguéhennec, French Brittany, in October and November of 2016. Kerguéhennec is a center of contemporary art where more than 30 sculptures are installed in the landscape. It is a place full of memory and meaning where other artists have already left their mark. The series explores the concept of “place” as an axis of emotional bonding through the darkness, the limit of the representable and the perception of reality. Night appears as an object of discovery, mystery and pleasure, as a hieroglyphic space that leads us to imagine something more than what we actually see. We enter the field of the mental, the imperceptible, the discovery. It is, in short, a proposal more sensory than reasoned, full of intangible elements that appear and disappear gradually as you go through the pages.
