Golie Talaie: Until Death Do Us Part
Until Death Do Us Part is a project Golie Talaie started in 2009, upon her first visit to Bellu cemetery in Bucharest. It is a part of a broader study of photography and death and the first book in the series she is working on regarding the use of photography at cemeteries. It includes photographs and a text by Talaie, which altogether reflect on her experience of visiting cemeteries in Romania between 2009 and 2011.
Talaie: ‘I had seen photographs of married couples placed on gravestones before but only occasionally. What was special to me was not the style of photographs but their multitude; almost all couples were represented together and sometimes even individualized photographs were put together to create this photographic (and symbolic) togetherness. It is the effect of this accumulation in the space of the cemetery that I have tried to reproduce in Until Death Do Us Part.’
