Carolien Beekman: Floating Submergence
Floating Submergence…a quest.
The foundation of my project is my fascination and awe for water: a contradiction in itself. Furthermore, water is not something: water is all-encompassing and at the same time: nothing.
The question is: how can one capture something, which inspires fear and fascination simultaneously? How to capture water anyway? Pre- or circumstantial conditions make people observe water: the environment creates images of water in a specific form. A wave can also trigger thoughts about water.
So how do I make images of an all-encompassing nothing? Which captures the fascination and awe? By repetition, mystification and aesthetics.
