Anja de Jong: The Borderland Project
‘The Borderland Project’ is a photographic study of no man’s land, into the hybrid areas linking natural and man made landscapes where humans act as strangers.
Worldwide, Anja de Jong selected locations according to landscape, climate and human conduct, where the struggle between nature and man for those areas is still being waged and the outcome is erratic.
The fascinating thing for her was not only to photograph the impressive landscapes as such, but also the human traces in them. The areas portrayed range from cold to extremely cold, highlands, coastal areas and warm to very warm areas, where in each instance the border between natural and cultural landscape is the subject of her black-and-white photography.
