Below is an overview of what personal information we collect and why we collect it.

Online store

Basic safety

The host of the site is Savvii. Through this company, we are provided with the Let’s Encrypt Authority X3 SSL certificate (an SSL certificate ensures the encryption of an HTTP connection, so that all data that is exchanged can only be read by sender and recipient).

Visit, orders and accounts

When you visit our webshop, we register products that you have viewed. This is intended as a reminder for the customer. They will be listed in the ‘Recently viewed products’ overview.

When you purchase products from us, we ask you for your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, telephone number, payment method and – if you have an account – also your username and password.

We use that information:

to send you information about your account and your order
to answer your requests (for example, return payments and complaints)
to make payments and to combat fraud
to set up an account for you in our webshop
to meet our legal obligations such as VAT and corporation tax
If you create an account with us, we will save your name, address, email and telephone number so that these are automatically filled in for subsequent orders.

We store the information about you for as long as we need it (for your convenience, for a short period – see the Cookies section at the bottom of this page), or are legally required to keep it (for tax and administrative obligations, for ten years) .

We also save comments or reviews if you leave them.

Our staff has access to the above information to complete orders, process, make refunds and to support you if needed.

When processing and sending the products you order, we use services from companies that also store data from you. This involves short-term storage by companies that all meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation:

for payments Buckaroo
for shipping MyParcel

If visitors leave comments on the site (you can do this with ‘Reviews’ on the product pages and under posts from our blog), we collect the data shown in the response form and also the IP address of the visitor and the user agent string of the browser to apply spam detection. This is done via the WordPress plugin Akismet. The supplier’s privacy policy page can be found here:

An anonymous string, based on your email address (this is also called a hash) can be sent to the Gravatar service if you use this. The privacy policy page can be found here: After your response has been approved, your profile photo will be publicly visible in the context of your response.

Live chats

If you browse our webshop, you can ask questions via the Live Chat application. The company offering this service,, may store the following information:

e-mail address
device that you use to browse the internet
operating system
the address (url) of the page where the chat started
information you provide when you chat with us

Live chat data and all live chat messages are stored for a maximum of 30 days. This helps us to provide our services and, where necessary, support. After 30 days all your data will be deleted automatically.
More information about the privacy policy of GDPR

With the application (plug-in) TI Wishlist, visitors can compile a wish list (wish list) of products that they may wish to purchase in the future. The PhotoQ Bookshop uses the free version of this application for the time being. The information that you enter as a visitor to your wish list can only be seen by you. We offer this service as a bonus for the visitor, not to see who puts what on his wish list. If you want to get rid of it, you can remove your wish list and all data will disappear from the database.
We may switch to a different or paid application in the future. If that happens, we will of course give a signal.

Embedded content (embeds) of other websites

Messages on this site can display embedded (embedded) content, in particular videos (for example Vimeo, YouTube) and the Issuu browser. The embedded content offers a glimpse into part of those other websites and behaves exactly the same as when the visitor visits this other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with this embedded content, including the interaction with embedded content if you have an account and are logged into that website. For the relevant privacy and cookie policy with regard to embedded content, we refer to the relevant websites:

We use Google Analytics to see how the website is performing and to study how we can improve the webshop so that both the customer and PhotoQ Bookshop benefit.

We send a newsletter roughly every two weeks. Our newsletter only goes to people who have given their explicit permission. We only use the list of names and e-mail addresses for that newsletter. We don’t share it with anyone.

For our newsletter we use the services of marketing platform Mailchimp. That company has a solid reputation when it comes to respecting privacy and offers users such as PhotoQ Bookshop the means needed to handle their data with care. Mailchimp has adapted its privacy policy to the new European requirements: Privacy Policy

Of course you can also use the links in the newsletter to adjust your data on our mailing list.
