Xavier Miserachs: Miserachs Barcelona
The complexity and seductiveness of a living city.’ That is how Josep Maria Espinàs summed up the gentle everyday scenes which Xavier Miserachs had chosen for Barcelona, blanc i negre (published by Aymà in 1964).
This book, a joint production by MACBA and RM Verlag, offers a new approximation to Xavier Miserachs’ most ambitious work, suggested by the curator Horacio Fernández, and features 84 of the 371 photographs included in the original publication.
Drawing inspiration from the work of William Klein and Francesc Català-Roca, Miserachs documented the day and night-time life in the city’s neighbourhoods. He captured families strolling, children in the streets, flea markets, workers leaving factories and migrants’ luggage at the railway station.
